Few days back I was in Islamabad. I went to Post office of Jinnah Super Market to get renewal of my car’s registration. The man next to me in queue when reached the desk was told by the desk officer that he was on the wrong desk and could not help him. He was asked to contact the next desk to pay his utility bills. The young man became very angry at once and spoke harshly that he was directed by some other officer near the main entrance to contact this desk and now that when his turn had come, he was being asked to go further. He murmured something, turned about and went off the office. There was only one person on the next desk and he, if stopped, had to wait only two or three minutes to get his work done. But he could not control his temper, got out of control and went away. I took pity on him and I thought how his whole day will pass. To be positive is a great blessing. You don’t loose temperament on trifle matters. And even in bad times you stay calm, peaceful, patient and even happy. If you loose control of your own, no one can help you. Holy Prophet (s.a.w) rightly said:
Few days back, I met my friend Zubair Iqbal Ghouri, in his office at PTV Headquarters Islamabad. He is a very literary person with a remarkable intellect. In our discussion he also introduced a masterfully written novel The DaVinci Code and recommended me to read it. The author of this novel also reveals the Divine Proportion of beauty, also known as Phi, or the Golden Mean. The number Phi is 1.618033987 (with the lowercase phi being 0.6180339887), and it is manifested in numerous ways. This is how it came to be known in the Renaissance as the Divine Proportion, because it was believed to be God’s hand. It indicates a ratio. It is said that every beautiful thing in this world is found to be in this proportionate form which scales 1:1.618033987
Phi appears in the following places:
the human body
the proportions of other animals
plants
DNA
the solar system
art and architecture
music
population growth
spirals
energy
the stock market
the Bible and in theology.
We will talk about this principle in detail at some other time. Here, I would like to quote also the verse of Mirza Rafi Souda which is perhaps about the unknown dimension of the beauty of the beloved. This was also told to me by Mr. Ghouri …
Today I was invited in a lunch organized in the honor of Dr. Michael Koch, the ambassador of Germany, at Islamabad Club by Allama Inayat Ali of Interfaith Dialogue Committee. Many prominent persons from different faith were present there. I believe such a get-togethers are very essential especially in these times to promote unity, peace and love among different sects and religions. What I believe is that we are all one even in a very literal physical sense as it has been scientifically proved. We are all part of a great energy field. Secondly, all are creatures of one God. Will God like anyone to misbehave, tease or kill any of His creatures. Thirdly, we are human beings, first of all. Then we enter into any religion and sect. We atleast should prove ourselves to be the super being.

I pay my gratitude to my friend Kashif Ali from Jordan for sending me these beautiful quotes on power of “wait”.
* Good things come to those who wait
* Life is all about timing… the unreachable becomes reachable, the unavailable become available, the unattainable… attainable. Have the patience, wait it out, it’s all about timing.
* If you wait to do everything until you’re sure it’s right, you’ll probably never do much of anything.
* Don’t wait for extraordinary opportunities. Seize common occasions and make them great. “Weak men wait for opportunities; Strong men make them.”
* I don’t wait for moods. You accomplish nothing if you do that. Your mind must know it has got to get down to work, as SUCCESS lies in Hard Work.
A drop of water when falls on the sand, it loses its identity. A drop of water when joins the company of a beautiful flower, early in the morning, becomes the dew drop. The same drop of water when enters a shell, comes out as a precious pearl. The drop is same but company it lives in, makes the difference in its life. The same thing was narrated by Dr. Muhammad Iqbal in these words:

The mighty King Mahmood of Ghazna, while hunting one day reached in a far off jungle when he had separated from his soldiers. He saw the smoke of a small fire and rode to the spot, where he found an old woman cooking something in a pot.
Mahmood said: “You have as guest today the king of the state. What are you cooking today?”
The crone said: “This is a bean stew”.
The emperor asked her: “Old lady, will you not give me some?”
“I will not,” she said, “for this is only for me. Your kingdom is not worth what these beans are worth. You may want my beans, but I don’t want anything you have. My beans are worth a hundred times more than all you have. Look at your enemies, who challenge your possessions in every particular. I am free, and I have my own beans.”
The mighty Mahmood looked at the undisputed owner of the beans, thought of his disputed domains and wept.
You possess only whatever will not be lost in a shipwreck. (Imam Al-Ghazali)
What you think most often — grows. This is the principle called Law of Focus. Your subconscious mind is not your master but your servant. It takes your those thoughts as command which you are frequently using most often and starts creating circumstances to pave the way for achievement of your goals. For instance, if you are driving a car and the person sitting beside you starts uttering such words that warn you to be alert and vigilant lest you should strike your car with something, you are more likely to have some accident. When your subconscious hears something repeatedly, it takes that as command and starts to make that happen. Similarly, if you want to do something creative, speacial or great, just start thinking about that and believe that God will surely help you. A day will definitely come when you will be on the way doing something creative, special and great.

“Lets celebrate our failures!”
You can achieve anything, but for anything you have to sacrifice something as well. Every worthwhile thing has a price tag on it in this world and you cannot get that thing without paying the price. Even, “Success” has also a price which you have to pay in the form of hard work, persistence, patience and belief. And this deal of success has two essential features. One, you have to pay the full price and second, you have to pay in advance. Only then you are entitled to have it. The fact is, the bigger the success, the higher would be the price. To achieve something great in life, you have to lose many things too. And these things may include timely fun, pleasure, job, business, family, persons or material pursuits. And one whose focus in on greater success will never regret losing these things.
Sound character is our greatest asset, because it provides the power with which we may ride the emergencies of life instead of going down under them. Without positive mental attitude, life might be described as long periods of uncertainty punctuated by occasional emergencies that shake you to the very core of your being. The emergencies may be financial, personal or health related but each must be dealt with separately and swiftly. The surest way to deal with any crises is to focus on solutions, not on the probable cause of the problem or who should be blamed for it. Conduct a quick damage assessment, take the time to think through the alternatives and their consequences, and then act to the implement the best solution. If you deal with life’s emergencies as they occur - on your own terms - you will be a stronger, better person for having looked them in the eye and conquered them.
(An excerpt from Napoleon Hill’s Positive Action Plan)

Dr. Muhammad Iqbal in his Persian poem “Asrar e Khudi” (The Secrets of the Self) reveals the secret of a great life. The following English verses are the translation made by Renold A. Nicholson:
Rise, O thou who art strange to life’s mystery,
Rise, intoxicated with the wine of an ideal (goal),
An ideal shinning as the dawn,
A blazing fire to all that is other than God,
An ideal higher than Heaven,
Winning, captivating, enchanting men’s hearts.
Furthermore, I would like to quote here the words of Robert Browning also, who said: “The aim, if reached or not, makes great the life. Try to be Shakespeare, leave the rest to God.” Also, the words of Henry Thoreau, “In the long run, men only hit at what they aim. Therefore, though they should fail immediately, this is best they aim something high.”
A match-stick has a head but it does not have a brain. Therefore, when ever there is a friction, it flares up immediately. Let us learn from this analogy between match-stick and a human brain. You, me and all of us have a head and a brain as well. Let us resolve to use our brain and not to react on impulse. Let us prove ourselves to be human beings, the superior beings, the Ashrafal Mukhlooqat.
