Don’t be discouraged, often it is the last key in the bunch that opens the door. The secret of success also lies in the persistence and determination. Success is a maid of those who keep on trying, who never give up, who press on. Many people give up at that stage when they are just a step away from success. The emperor Sikandar e Azam learnt the principle of success from an insect who in spite of falling down from wall many times did not give up and finally succeeded in climbing over the wall. Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, Wise are the ones who make the most of things that come their way, and spend no time weeping for the things that get away. My fiend Dr. Arif Siddiqi sent me a good SMS on Eid which reads, ‘There is no key to happiness as the door of happiness is always open.’ Waves are inspiring not because they rise and fall but because whenever they fall they never fail to rise again. Eid is the day when the Muslims thank God for having given them the will, the strength and the endurance to observe fast and obey His commandment during the holy month of Ramadan. This day, in Muslim world, brings rejoicing and happiness. The rejoicing is not, however, at the departure of the month of Ramadan; it is the happiness which man feels after successfully completing an important task. It is celebrated for three days in a holiday called Eid-ul-Fitr (the Feast of Fast Breaking). Gifts are exchanged. Friends and family gather to pray in congregation. The feast of Fitr is God’s reward for those who fast during the holy month of Ramadan. In this month, man should try to add to his true knowledge of God, do acts of charity for the needy and renew his beliefs towards his Lord. Today I was talking on phone to Mr. Akram Zaki sb from whom I learn wonderful things. No doubt he is a treasure of knowledge and sagacity. He said that he always believed in this statement, ‘The best way to do a thing is to do it’. He further cited the words of Hitler who said, ‘I don’t take right decisions. I take decisions and make them right’. Many times in our lives, we just keep thinking of a time to come when we could do a thing with perfection. But that time never comes and we keep delaying even many important tasks. Even the time passes away and we are left with nothing but regret. The best way is to just take the first step, take the initiative, seek God’s help and hope for the best. The fact is that the real competition between the organizations now lies in the field of creativity and innovation. In the words of a management theorist, now organizations have to choose between “innovate or die”. Iqbal is also of the view that only that will hold the leadership position who comes up with something new, better or innovative.
It’s a world of invention which, in every era, revolves around the inventor. Don’t damage your ‘self’ by replicating others but safeguard and rely upon your own inner creative ability. O, Lord, Where there is hate, let me sow love. O, Divine Master, It is in giving that we receive. (Anonymous) Just as we can program a computer to give output of our own choice, we can also program our mind for more peace, serenity, calm and tranquility. Here, let me give you a very simple technique: * Sit or lie in a comfortable position. * Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Let your breathing be slow and relaxed. Involve your abdomen in inhaling and exhaling air. * Focus all your attention on your breathing. Notice the movement of your chest and abdomen in and out. * Block out all other thoughts, emotions, feelings and sensations. If you feel your attention wandering, bring it back to your breathing. * As you inhale, say the word “peace” to yourself, and as you exhale, say the word “calm.” Draw out the pronunciation of the word so that it lasts for the entire breath. The word “peace” sounds like p-e-e-e-e-a-a-a-a-c-c-c-e-e-e. The word “calm” sounds like: c-a-a-a-a-l-l-l-l-l-m-m-m. Repeating these words as you breathe will help you to concentrate and they will also send commands to your sub-conscious mind to be peaceful and calm. * Continue with this exercise for some days and very soon you will master your mind to work it the way you want. Everything in this world has been placed in some order and discipline. Order is beauty. A beautiful object is always in a specific proportion and order of its components. Even bad things can, if put in order, seem good. My teacher, Lt. Col. S. A. Qureshi often said, ‘Make a mistake with confidence’. He was very right. A mistake committed with confidence can camouflage its ugliness and pitfalls. ‘We do what we like to do and not what is reasonable or rationally or mathematically correct. Love and not logic is the guiding principle of our life. The urge of human life is love or the feeling of beauty. Intellect cannot become an urge because it cannot feel or know beauty. A scientist can tell us how sound is produced but he cannot tell us why a symphony is beautiful. He can calculate exactly the area covered by a picture, can explain what part is played by the rays of light, the retina, the optical nerve or the brain in observing it, or enumerate to the minutest details the shades of colours use in it but he cannot say in what does the beauty of the picture consist. He may himself feel its beauty but he cannot demonstrate it logically or scientifically. The knowledge of beauty is open to feeling alone. It is outside the approach of rationality.’ Imam Al-Ghazali relates to tradition from the life of Jesus (Isa), Son of Mary (Maryam). Isa one day saw some people sitting miserably on a wall, by the roadside. He asked: ‘What is your affliction?’ They said: ‘We have become like this through our fear of Hell.’ |
